1. Diesel Engine Selection
For port equipment, there are no specific requirements for the diesel engine used in the generator set. Ports generally prefer brands such as Cummins, Caterpillar, and Volvo. These engines are typically industrial-grade, water-cooled, and feature a belt-driven, closed-circuit cooling system (the radiator must be treated for salt spray resistance). They are four-stroke, electronically controlled direct injection, turbocharging, and digital speed control. Ports generally prefer brands such as Cummins, Caterpillar, and Volvo. As standard generator sets, these brands offer reliable, long-term operation, reducing port maintenance time.
The main diesel engine is required to have an electronic speed governor. Its speed control ensures that the engine speed remains within ±0.3% of the rated speed when the load increases to a sudden peak. During steady state, the engine speed is maintained within ±0.5%.
II. Generator Selection
When selecting a generator, ports generally require the following parameters:
1) Excitation method: Permanent magnet synchronous generator;
2) No-load voltage adjustment range: 95% to 100% of rated voltage;
3) Steady-state voltage regulation:
4) Transient voltage regulation: ≤±10%;
5) Voltage recovery time:
6) Voltage fluctuation: ≤1%;
7) Insulation grade: H-class.
At rated no-load voltage, the line voltage waveform distortion rate should be no more than 2%.
In addition, the generator must be capable of continuous operation under rated operating conditions. The protection level of the generator is IP23, with an air filter and no screen. This prevents the installation of a screen that may result in insufficient ventilation.
Because it is used in a coastal environment, the generator also needs to be protected against damage from moisture and salt spray. Therefore, the generator must be equipped with an anti-condensation heater and operate at a voltage of 220V. Consider also installing a winding temperature relay and temperature control box on the unit. This device provides an alarm to prevent winding overheating and effectively prevents overheating caused by poor ventilation due to filter blockage.
If the customer requires a winding temperature display, a winding RTD is also available. The default winding RTD is a PT100 sensor. A multi-function meter is also available for convenient parameter reading. Bearing RTDs can also be installed.
The generator housing also needs to be salt spray resistant, generally requiring a paint film thickness of 240μm.
Unit operating requirements: The main generator set must be capable of simultaneously starting the hoist and trolley mechanisms under full load and accelerating to full speed within the time specified in the operating cycle time chart. The main generator set must ensure that voltage and frequency fluctuations during sudden acceleration or deceleration under full load do not exceed the power supply fluctuation technical requirements of electrical equipment such as the frequency converter, programmable controller (PLC), and lighting system.
